Never compromise with values!
Many people act based on the situations and not on their values. Just to satisfy their Ego or situation or projecting incorrect things (by cunning activities) they are ready to compromise their core values.
If Steve Jobs would have worried about Nokia, Motorola, Samsung etc. and would have introduced cheap/low-cost mobiles and hired employees for marginal pay, to compete with all other mobile manufacturers, today, Apple might have lost its existence in the market and iPhone would be available on road side sellers and not being a brand to have.
Courageous and quality people or companies never compromise their values in spite of fear. They are very clear on their values and commitment to quality.
Here are two stories, how individuals or companies will destroy their business or reputations by selfishness or false projection of revenue by conducting immoral activities.
Vada Pav and recession story:
A Vada Pav seller in Mumbai - Vada Pav is very tasty and has a good reputation in Mumbai. The seller's son comes home after graduation and visits his father's hotel.
He then called his father and said, 'What you are doing is not okay. It's recession time, we should think about saving a lot of money this time.’
The father asks, what is the recession? In this time of economic stagnation, many people will lose their jobs and lose all business.
Father listens to his son's advice and replaces the nice chairs with wooden benches, all good bulbs with low voltage bulbs, aluminum coated plate with used old newspaper as plates, filter water with normal water.
And the Vada Pav preparation started with cheap materials and vegetables. He also reduced the quantity as per his son's advice.
Son told his father that if we do all this, we can save a lot of money. The father felt very happy and feels good that providing higher education to son is benefiting him.
After a few days, the hotel started getting less and less crowded and in sometime, the hotel came to the closing state. Then the father said, 'Son, you are right. Otherwise, we too would have to suffer' from this rescission.
Core reason for their business loss is because of low quality, cheap ambiance, low quantity and tasteless food.
Father compromised with his values and quality. Lost his Goodwill, reputation and business.
Buddha sculptor story:
A sculptor was sculpting an 8-foot-tall Buddha statue. A journalist comes in and asks. What are you doing? Then the sculptor said, I have been asked for an 8-foot Buddha statue that will be piled on a 24-foot-high pillar. The journalist then asks, why are you doing another one? Next to you, I can see one 8-foot idol is already done.
The sculptor then says that it is a little defective, with a small line on the neck of the Buddha.
Then the journalist asked the sculptor, this 8-foot idol will be placed on a 24 foot high pillar. At such a high altitude, it is impossible to pinpoint that small defect. Why are you carving another?
The sculptor then says, "No one can see that defect, but it comes to my heart, every time I see it."
I cannot cheat my heart.
This is what quality and value means. Be loyal to your heart either you are company or an individual!
If you are not losing your core values, then going to hell is much better than living in heaven by compromising with your values.
Ups and downs are common in every one’s life and business. No one is exceptional. All should undergo.
One should be courageous enough to face it. Courage is a heart's property. Cowardness is a logical mind's property.
In difficult times, listen to your heart not to mind, mind always creates fear in you and suggests some cunning logical ideas. By following those ideas, you may compromise with your core values and truthful nature.
I personally believe and follow this; your values should be like you’re breathing.
· No matter what the situations are, you breathe.
· No matter how many problems you have, you breathe.
· No matter how healthy/sick you are, you breathe.
· No matter how conscious/unconscious you are, you breathe.
· Similarly, never compromise with your values. Compromising with your values and losing your breath is more or less the same.
