Stop chasing behind property, name and fame!

Stop chasing behind property, name and fame!

In India it is common wisdom that the world is like a waiting room in a railway station; it is not your house. You are not going to remain in the waiting room forever. Nothing in the waiting room belongs to you—the furniture, the paintings on the wall . . .You use them— you see the painting, you sit on the chair, you rest on the bed—but nothing belongs to you. You are just here for a few minutes, or for a few hours at the most, then you will be gone.

Yes, what you have brought in with you, into the waiting room, you will take away with you; that's yours. What have you brought into the world? And the world certainly is a waiting room. The waiting may not be in seconds, minutes, hours, days, it may be in years; but what does it matter whether you wait seven hours or seventy years?

You may forget, in seventy years, that you are just in a waiting room. You may start thinking perhaps you are the owner, perhaps this is the house you have built. You may start putting your nameplate on the waiting room.

There are people—I have seen it, because I was traveling so much: people have written their names in the bathrooms of the waiting room. People have engraved their names on the furniture of the waiting room. It looks stupid, but it is very similar to what people do in the world.

There is a very significant story in ancient Jaina scriptures. In India it is believed that if somebody can become the emperor of the whole world he is called a chakravamn. The word chakra means the "wheel." In ancient India it was a way to avoid unnecessary fighting and violence: a chariot, a golden chariot, very valuable, with beautiful and strong horses, would move from one kingdom to another kingdom. That was the finest way to conquer world. So every king had the desire to become a chakravartin.

The story is that one man became a chakravartin—and it happens only once in thousands of years that a man becomes a chakravartin. Even Alexander the Great was not a world conqueror; there was yet much left unconquered. And he died very young, he was only thirty-three: there was not even time enough to conquer the world. What to say of conquering, the whole world was not even known! Half of the world was unknown, and the half that was known, even that was not conquered. This man, of whom I am going to tell you the story, became the chakravartin.

It is said that when a chakravartin dies—because a chakravartin happens only in thousands of years, he is a rare being—when he dies he is received in heaven with great rejoicing and he is taken to a special place.

In Jaina mythology, in heaven there is a parallel mountain to the Himalayas. The Himalayas are just made of rocks and earth and ice. The parallel to the Himalayas in heaven is called Sumeru. Sumeru means the ultimate mountain: nothing can be higher than that, nothing can be better than that. It is solid gold; instead of rocks there are diamonds and rubies and emeralds.

When a chakravartin dies he is led to Sumeru mountain to engrave his name on it. That is a rare opportunity; that happens only once in thousands of years. Of-course this man was immensely exited that he was going to write his name on Sumeru. That is the ultimate of all the great ones that have been, and will also be the catalog of all the great ones that have been, and will also be the catalog of all the great ones who are going to be. This emperor was becoming party to a lineage of supermen.

The gatekeeper gave him instruments to engrave his name. He wanted to take few of his men who had committed suicide just because their emperor was dying-they could not think of living without him. His wife, his prime minister, his commander in chief: all the great people who were around him had all committed suicide, so they had come with him.

The emperor wanted the gatekeeper to let them all come to see him engrave his name, because what is the joy if you go alone and engrave your name and nobody is there even to see?—because die real joy is that the whole world should see.

The gatekeeper said, "You listen to my advice, because this is my inherited profession. My father was a gatekeeper, his father was a gatekeeper; for centuries we have been gatekeepers to Sumeru mountain. Listen to my advice: Don't take them with you; otherwise you will repent."

The emperor could not understand, but neither could he ignore the advice-because what interest could that man have in preventing him?

The gatekeeper said, "If you still want them to see, first go engrave your name; then come back and take them with you if you want. I have no objection even now if you want to take then, but just in case you decide not to, then there will be no chance to change your mind . . , they will be with you. You go alone."

This was perfectly sane advice. The emperor said, "That's good. I will go alone, engrave my name, come back, and call you all.

The gatekeeper said. "I am perfectly agreeable to that"

The emperor went and he saw the Sameru shining under thousands of suns—because in heaven you cannot be so poor as to have just one sun—thousands of suns, and a golden mountain far bigger than the Himalayas—and the Himalayas are almost two thousand miles long! He could not open his eyes for a moment, it was so glaring there. And then he started looking for a space, the right space, but he was very much puzzled: there was no space; the whole mountain was engraved with names.

He could not believe his eyes. For the first time he became aware what he was. Up to now he was thinking he was a superman who happens once in thousands of years. But time has been from eternity; even thousands of years don't make any difference, so many chakravartins had happened already. There was no space on that biggest mountain in the whole universe where he could write his small name.

He came back, and now he understood that the gatekeeper was right not to take his wife and his commander in chief and his prime minister and other intimate friends. It was good that they had not seen the situation. They could still believe that their emperor was a rare being.

He took the gatekeeper aside and he said. -But there is no space!

The gatekeeper said. "That's what I was telling you. What you have to do is to erase a few names and write down your name. That's what has been done; my whole life I have been seeing this done. my father used to say this has been done. My father’s  father - none of my family have seen Sumeru empty, with any space, ever.

"Whenever a chakravartin has come he had to erase a few names and write his own name. So, this is not the whole history of the chakravartins. Many times, it has been erased, many times it has been engraved. You just do your work, and then if you want to show your friends you can bring them in.

The emperor said, "No, I don't want to show them and I don't want to even write my name. What is the point?—someday somebody will come and erase it.

"My whole life has become utterly meaningless. This was my only hope, that Sumeru, the golden mountain in heaven was going to have my name. For this I have lived, for this I have staked my life; for this I was ready to kill the whole world. And anybody else can erase my name and write his. What is the point of writing it?

I will not write it."

The gatekeeper laughed.

The emperor said, "Why are you laughing?"

The gatekeeper said, "This is strange, because this too I have been hearing from my grandfathers—that chakravartins come, and seeing the whole story, just turn back; they don't write their names. You are not new: anybody having a little intelligence would do the same."

In this whole world what can you gain? What can you take away with you? Your name, your prestige, your respectability? Your money, your power—what? Your scholarship? You cannot take anything. Everything will have to be dropped here. And in that moment you will understand that all that you possessed was not yours; the very idea of possession was wrong. And because of that possession you were corrupted.

To increase that possession -to have more money, to have more power, to conquer more lands—you were doing things that even you cannot say were right. You were lying, you were dishonest. You were having hundreds of faces. You were not true even for a single moment to anybody or to yourself; you could not be. You had to be false, phony, pretending, because these are things that help you to succeed in the world. Authenticity is not going to help you. Honesty is not going to help you. Truthfulness is not going to help you.

Without possessions, success, fame—who are you? You don't know. You are your name, you are your fame, you are your prestige, your power. But other than these, who are you? So, this whole possessiveness becomes your identity. It gives you a false sense of being. That's the ego.

Ego is not something mysterious, it is a very simple phenomenon. You don't know who you are, and to live without knowing who you are is impossible. If I don't know who I am, then what I doing here? Then whatsoever I am doing becomes meaningless. The first and the foremost thing is to know who I am. Perhaps then I can do something that fulfills my nature, makes me contented, brings me home.

But if I don't know who I am, and I go on doing things, how can I manage to reach where my nature was supposed to reach, to lead? I have been running hither and thither, but there is not going to be any point that I can say, "Now I have arrived, this was the place I was searching for. "

World not going to remember anyone’s name, don’t be desperate in engraving your name, someone will erase your name and write their names…!!!

Start living life with simplicity and authenticity. That gives you a great time for you to see the beauty of love, kindness and celebrations of joy in Life.

If you are chasing behind property, name and fame, you will surely miss love, kindness and joy. Just question to yourself, when was the last time you have great peace, celebrations and joy? By chasing behind name and fame, you missed to enjoy the beauty in life.

When was the last time you appreciated?

When was the last time you appreciated?

There are two interesting stories and one video reference in this article:

1. My America visit in 2008

2. Food service we receive

3. Video reference to understand the power of appreciation.

Keep reading this article to get some lights on appreciation and its benefits.

Many a times, we keep on waiting for someone, to appreciate us. When was the last time you appreciated someone for something good!

Remember, in your personal life or professional life, are you getting a lot of problems and experiencing failures? One of the main reason is: You invested most of your precious energy in downgrading yourself by complaining to someone about something, instead of investing the same energy on your own growth and success.

If you examine your life, you have made many mistakes, that is the only reason you are what you are today. No one is perfect. But you are ignoring all and jumping to find some mistakes in someone about something. With time, it has become your habit.

In my life many successes are mainly based on very few recognition and appreciations! Which are given by my Parents, Relations, Teachers, Friends and Others. Those are the great boosters in my life during my difficult times, failure situations and confusion states. I'm thankful to all.

There is a saying: Finding faults in others is the easiest and stupidest thing that anyone can do. Stop investing your energy on negative things.

Just appreciate someone for something, this gives you great joy. You don't lose your energy; in fact, you gain energy and happiness. With this you are motivating others to look something good in you and appreciate you for that.

If you observe, any workplace, team or family invests a lot of time in finding mistakes and complaining to someone about something. That workplace or team cannot deliver any tremendous results. Reason is very obvious; they spend their part of life just in finding mistakes and complaining about others. No energy is left in them to deliver great results.

Similarly, in your personal life or family you are not able to live a happy or peaceful life. Because, you are very watchful of others' actions to complain about something. It leads to restlessness, relationship issues and failures.

This is a fact; every person has their own good and bad things. If you find a person with 99% bad qualities, just remaining 1% is enough for you to appreciate someone. Make your heart kinder and loving, just wait for one reason to appreciate someone for something.

When was the last time you appreciated your: Children, Parents, Managers, Colleagues or Co-worker, Shopkeeper, Sweepers, Street sales person, Servant, Maid, Superior and so on? Many of them spent 5 to 10 years, they have never received any appreciation note from anyone. Opposite, they always heard complaints from others. Your one appreciation brings great joy in their life!

My America trip in the year 2008:

I have been to America for a business trip from office. I was provided one apartment with great facilities, which are almost equivalent to a 4 Star grade and scheduled car with a driver to pick up and drop. I stayed for three months in that fully furnished luxurious apartment. I used to prepare tea. Several times I burnt tea in the tea vessel to get dark color. (Luckily fire alarm did not get activated due to smoke)

That tea stain was very difficult to remove from the vessel, I was reusing it regularly. Every 15 days we used to get servants. They used to just clean the apartment and organise things.

One evening, I came back from the office and was shocked by looking at my tea vessel. It was shining like a mirror and the apartment looked like a brand new one. Regarding tea vessel, it was so sticky that I had given up. But the person who cleaned that day, did the job better than me. It's great to see servants being better than the owner!

There comes the ownership and dedication towards the work. I got their number and called that service team company. They asked me, do you have any complaints about our service? I said; No, I called you to give appreciation to the person who gave service to my apartment. They were very happy and promised me to convey my message and thanks to them.

I can understand service company people’s condition, they only address customer complaints. And my application note brought them new light, good spirit to continue with quality in service.

Your Food Service:

It may be your spouse, parents, servants, children, cook, maid, or hotel. Every day you get some food. When all is good, you eat with no complaints. If you find any problem like baking, salt or spice, taste and so on. Suddenly you jump on them and complain about their mistakes.

Are you daily performing an outstanding job at your work? (Grade 5 [or doing only meeting the expectations grade 3) still you expect grade 5 from your manager or superior. But at home/hotel they always have to perform a grade 5 job in cooking. How frequently do you do a grade 5 job at work? But you want to be identified as grade 5 always.

If your Manager or supervisor reacts, the way you react to the quality of food, you may have to resign on the same day... understand patience and sacrifice of the people who are serving or cooking food for you.

Understand their efforts, no one intentionally spoils the food. By mistake it happens. If they are intentional, they don't need much effort to spoil the food.

Believe it or not, if I feel any of the food items are tasty and good, I personally go to the kitchen and appreciate the cooking staff or person who cooked it. I've been doing it for several years.

Like this there are many people who come in our life, try to find a reason to appreciate someone for something. This is a better and finest way to create a better world.

Stop investing energy in finding faults in others. We all know due to education, parenting, environment, we have different behavior, culture and practices. If they get similar opportunities like you, they might be better than you. Find something good and appreciate it. This is the only way to bring lights. If you keep on complaining, that demotivates them, they will start under-performing. Because no one has seen their struggles.

If you compare everyone’s batting with Sachin Tendulkar and complain, you will not be able to build a cricket team. Sometimes the most unexpected person brings a victory to the cricket team. It happened many times in sports. Understand every person has some great qualities and all are unique.

Difficult people are not difficult by nature. Due to lack of love and appreciation they become difficult people. Try finding a few good things in them, recognize and appreciate them. You will see wonderful results! I’m not joking, it’s a fact. I’m saying this statement with my own personal experiences and results.

Have practice of appreciating 5 people in a day. Please don't end your day without appreciating someone for something. Your one social media like or comments may bring great joy!

Important appreciation notes:

  • Appreciate with valid reasons.
  • Be truthful in your appreciation.
  • Be true inside and outside when appreciating.
  • Show genuine interest in your appreciation.
  • Don't find or consider logic to appreciate someone for something.
  • Timing and situation are very important in appreciation.

If you are complaining about someone in a team or group of people, that person feels insulted and it definitely brings your reputation down. With those complaints you lose credibility and trust from that person. There is a saying: If you want to appreciate, appreciate on the floor [ or publicly]. If you want to complain, do it personally [one on one in a room]. It enhances your respect and credibility.

Here is a very thoughtful video on appreciation: Joel Osteen - Healing Words

Do not own property for children, make children as property.

Do not own property for children, make children as property.

Corona gives us more time to engage with our children... Here are a few highlights of our engagement.

My two children [daughter 8 years old and son 6 years old] have been able to learn yoga, doing a 12-timed sun salutary [Surya Namaskar] which has 12 Yoga postures in one Namaskar, it brought them a lot of enthusiasm. [Initially they denied, after explaining the benefits, they agreed and now they are happily doing…]
They are also doing Pranayama four times a day and once meditation practice; these have become part of their lives through continuous practise.
I encouraged my children to write and tell stories on 3 things (Ex: Parrot, ant and tree. So on), they are able to create their own stories, I appreciated their narration and stories they wrote.
One hour a day, after my work, I gave my laptop to my kids [not office one, my personal laptop; ... following guidelines] that prompted them to draw a painting. I only showed how to use 3 or 4 features of MS-Paint. It fostered creativity in them. [Attached Art collages]
I told my children to write a picture on 1 object on a paper, gave them a star rating for the wrote. That helped them develop their hand craft/art skills. [Attached minimized pictures of their Art]
They showed us some magic shows, puppet shows, many other creative thoughts and received appreciation for their work. I gave them clay that I had previously brought from farm land (black soil, ಜೇಡಿ ಮಣ್ಣು), and they showed me so many crafts out of it. They are reusing that clay...
We ask them to do small tasks and they are paid for that work. We encouraged them by paying for their work [paid ₹ 10, ₹ 20 for the activity] and also assigned few pots, asked to grow tomatoes, brinjal, flowers, chilli, coriander, grains, and so on and we paid for their products and purchased [paid ₹ 20, ₹ 30]. [this was before Corona times] I did this for them as they need to understood the fruit and vegetable values and hard work behind to get them on our plates as food.

Parenting is…

1. Creating an atmosphere to learn and ability to do the given work.

2. Give them money for small housework or tasks, [₹ 5, ₹ 10, so on] they learn to respect work and money.

3. Teach dignity of labour, as they need to understand all kinds of work is good and important.

4. Instilling courage and confidence to face uncertainties and challenges. [Life is very unpredictable, unknown and uncertain and it’s very dynamic, no defined rules work.]

5. They should understand the value of the things. [I took 6 months to give a small watch. My daughter once begged me for that, when I went to the shop; she was looking at the watch, but the shopkeeper called it ₹ 55, I convinced her as - when I go to the Majestic, I will bring it to you, it costs only ₹25 in Majestic. My daughter was crying, but we came home. 6 months later I gave her the watch, which I brought it from the Majestic. It’s not about money, with God's grace I'm not that poor. she should understand that things take time. Also, its value and importance also.

According to some analysis of teenagers’ suicides, one reason is because of bad-parenting i.e. parents give everything, whatever their children ask in their childhood. When they grow up, they ask for something bigger which might not be affordable to parents due to financial conditions, these kids who never experienced NO, start hearing the word NO and they cannot digest that, which end up giving up their lives. Hence, they need to know the truth that everything is not available or possible in life. Sometimes they should experience NO’s in life.

6. Bring some discipline in children. As Shiv Khera said in You Can WIN book: Generally, children brought up with excessive freedom and a lack of discipline grow up not respecting themselves, their parents or society, and have a hard time accepting responsibility.

7. Don’t try to make your child as your xerox copies, give freedom and allow them to express their creativity, ideas and thoughts. If you observer your life, its not free from any suffering and sadness, so why to create one more suffering being by imposing your idea and guidelines.

Note: Teaching values and discipline, it’s part of brining responsible child to the society. [This is not part of removing freedom]

As the title says, if we raise children efficiently, there is no need to make assets. It doesn't matter how much property you make, for the children who are not properly raised.

Children learn more by observations. So, watch your words and behaviors, they follow your actions not your teachings. Spend one hour with them, it boosts your productivity too…

Achievers Secret

Achievers Secret

All are having only 24 hours of time in a day, why some are getting success and others are not?

There is a thin line difference in time investment and looking things. If you understand that, you will be part of the achievers group. Please read this article till the end to know the secret of it.

Since childhood we have known one thing that is; hard work brings success. It's not true, only work will not bring success. There are other factors involved.

To cook one curry! You need vegetables. You can't call vegetables itself as a curry. It requires spices, grains, chilly, coriander, curry leaves, salt, water, fire and so on. Now consider hard work in place of vegetables, salt in place of time management, self-discipline in place of chilly, water in place of communication, curry leaves in place of innovation, and spices in place of fire and so on.

If you cook curry without salt or chilly or any one main ingredient, it may not be 100%. It will satisfy your hunger and may not be delicious or healthy or complete. Similarly doing your work alone wouldn't bring success to you. Curry without curry leaves may not give that fragrance or attraction. To get success in any field, he/she must be an all-rounder.

You may have feelings like; I'm poor in communication or other things, but I'm very good at working. Is that enough to get success? No, you must work on the areas to improve where you are weak at.

Sachin Tendulkar served decades in cricket not because he is a best batsman. He served as a bowler, fielder, captain, and many roles. In fact, he brought victory to Indian cricket team by his best bowling and fielding’s also. You may say I'm not a Sachin Tendulkar, he is lucky. Remember, luck will never come and help you, it comes after your victory.

How will your problems help you?

Let me give my own examples. In my childhood I was a very shy person and used to be afraid to speak with others and strangers. Now I'm giving motivational sessions to the masses. During my studies I was very weak in computer programming language and used to mug up programs. Now I am able to build framework and suggest solutions or algorithms to the software products.
After my studies, I was struggling to get the job in software industry. Now I'm helping 100s of students to get job in IT/Corporate industry. I was suffering from frequent health issues like, ulcers, throat infection, cough and so on, now I am became health coach, helping many and cured chronic illnesses. I started business and failed heavily, now I'm doing business mentor job. I got many personal and professional issues in my life, now I become a life coach.

Why I have mentioned those many things about me, just to let you know, once upon a time; I was poor/weak in many areas. Now I have become a master in those areas. Reason: instead of thinking about my problems, I focused only on solutions and considered every problem as an opportunity and learning experience.

All my weaknesses or problems helped me to grow bigger and wiser. Every problem and disturbance made me put lots of efforts into learning and understanding more in that field. Now, my attitude towards problems is different. I welcome them with red carpet and with full heart, those are the only options for us to enhance our capacity, knowledge, and strength in our life.

How to become a master on one subject?
You have great potential to acquire any new skill or knowledge, this requires your planned efforts. Here is what Swami Vivekananda said about it:  Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is a way to success.
If you are following the above guidelines as suggested; you can be a master on the subject which you want to be.

How to invest time in a meaningful way?

Above is the pictorial representation of the Circle of control and Circle of concerns. Choice is yours, in choosing which circle to ignore. If you invest a few hours every day in watching TV and other things which are in the outer circle, it directly affects your inner circle development.  So, invest most of your time on the inner circle than the outer circle. Circle of concerns are not in your control, if you spend thinking or speaking 3 to 4 hours every day about “Circle of concerns” it simply wastes your time. If you invest the same 3 to 4 hours on “Circle of control” it takes you to the next level in your chosen field.

What is self-ignorance? In my opinion it is ignoring the  inner circle and thinking or investing time on the outer circle. Be conscious of your time investment.

Power of GOAL

Power of GOAL

Unfortunately many people live life with no specific goals, whereas some people have goals but not specific. Let's see what is advantages of having specific goal?

Assume you are a skilled shooter and have bow and arrow in your hands. I will ask you to shoot. Where you will shoot? You can't shoot as I have not given any target/goal. Similarly having skills wouldn't help you, unless you have specific goal or targets set.

Goal without specification looks like this, you have bow and arrow and you are shooting at East side. What is the use of shooting towards East side when there is no right target set?

Goal should be like this: In the forest, once tiger decided to catch one specific deer (in group the group of deer) and runs towards that, if on the way any other deer comes closer to it, it will just ignore and move towards the targeted one, it's ready  to run additional kilometers to catch the deer,  and never compromises from the target and its goal.

Here is one of the Harvard Business school research:
In 1979 Harvard asked one specific question to MBA students. "Have you clearly written goals of your future and prepared any plans to achieve them?"
Only 3% students had written goals and had plans. 13% students had goals but not written. Other 84% had not set any goals and they were very much interested to enjoy holidays after academics.
After 10 years in 1989, researchers surveyed the same students. 13% who had goals and not written on papers were doing ordinary jobs, and earning two times greater than 84%. Whereas 3% who had clearly written goals were earning 10 times greater than the 97%

Above research clearly explains that one should always have clear and specific goals, not only goals, they have to write down them on a paper.

Let me give my own example, I decided to get a job in 2 months. I marked the end date in calendar and started looking at it and working towards it. I got the job before reaching end date or deadline. It’s not my only story, all of you look back and see, in your life; most of the achievements you have achieved when you set specific goal and target dates to it.

Why my goals is not becoming a reality?
Answer is you might be having goals, those goals may not be clear or specific, and you have not written on paper or you have doubt on your set goal or you are not working towards to achieve them.
Remember, one should have believable goals. You can't have a goal which you yourself can't believe in it. Example: I want to become a Prime Minister or President of the country. It's impossible because you set that goal but your core inner feelings says that it's not possible by you. Having these unbelievable goals and not having any goals are almost same.

Steps to set goals and achieve:
  1. Have possible, believable and achievable goals.
  2. Once you set goals, start doing research to achieving them, prepare plan, analyze about goal requirements and acquire skill set for that and work on those areas.
  3. Once your goal requirements are clear, start working on them. Assume if your goal requires 10 different things you need to be master on, prioritize 10 things and work on one at a time. If one of requirement is too big? Break them into pieces and apply divide and conquer rule.
  4. Identify and eliminate what negative actions or thought are blocking you to achieve your goal.
  5. Stop blaming others, take all the responsibilities on your shoulders.
  6. Forgive all the people who disturbed you in the past, invest the same energy towards your goals.
  7. Believe that there is a solution for every problem and assume nothing stops you to achieve your goal.
  8. Have good relationships with every member of your family and work environments.
  9. Assume you have no limitations and have infinite energy to achieve your goals.
  10. Set goals with target dates. For bigger goals, split and set the target dates and deadlines to achieve them.
  11. Measure your goal and it's achievement like sports score board by tracking with percentage of accomplishment.
  12. Have courage and believe that you have all capabilities to achieve your goal.

Power of achieving goal using power of subconscious mind:
Education, Experience and Eligibility does not matter, only GOAL matters! If you want to achieve something, set believable goal and write down on the paper, and work towards it.

Each of us have about 60,000 thoughts on an average day. By writing out your desires and goals on a piece of paper, you send a red flag to your subconscious mind that these thoughts are far more important that the remaining 59,999 other ones. Your mind will then start to seek out all opportunities to realize your destiny like a guided missile. It is really a very scientific process. Most of us are simply not aware of it. [Reference Book: The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari. By Robin S. Sharma]
